Abstract

"Ellas Pueden" is a podcast hosted on the RTVE Audio platform of the Radio Televisión Española corporation. In this work, we aim to understand how the public issue of violence against women has been addressed in this program. We start with reflections on the potential of the podcast as a radio format, on the characteristics of communication practices and journalism with a gender perspective, and on the existing limitations in the coverage of gender violence in conventional media. "Ellas Pueden" places women's lives at the center of its proposal and contributes to public debate and learning about the inequalities that sustain gender violence and the necessary actions to overcome it. It is a qualitative research, with a case study combined with thematic analysis. The sample consists of 15 broadcasts aired between 2012 (start of broadcasts) and 2023. The analysis includes four dimensions: 1) the program, perspective, and host; 2) sources of information; 3) recurring themes; and 4) the framing of gender violence. We identify that "Ellas Pueden" manages to deepen the debate on violence against women from an explicit position in the fight against gender violence, the use of various informational sources that address various aspects of the issue, and the framing of violence as a public problem that demands collective action.
